The work of EDWINA JAQUES
is woven around three central themes: a personal search for understanding, the dormant
power coiled within each of us and the art of life driven by the force of nature. These
are expressed in a variety of media, often combined, using the human form as the primary
visual catalyst.
However the ideas are actualised, be it via sculpture or painting, a
particular kind of emotion or sense of awe is evoked by the work. They become icons for a
"new age" that draws on a universal reservoir rather than a single source. This
"New Art" is a hybrid of the intellect and the intuitive, space-age and
aboriginal values. The use of both natural and manmade materials in conjunction with craft
and fine art techniques is a blending of ancient wisdoms and 20th Century technology.
Having gained a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of
Michigan, Edwina was a recipient of a grant enabling her to study the Ancient Celtic
Culture in the U.K. where she made Devon her home. Since then, Edwina has exhibited
throughout Britain and her work is represented in collections Worldwide. |
