Gigi Crocker Jones

Gigi Crocker Jones was a well-known weaver in UK when she went out to Oman in 1977 to advise on the revival of yarn production and weaving particularly among Bedu women. She stayed for over 20 years. Throughout this time she collected examples of textiles and other craftwork, recording as many details as possible.

The bulk of the collection she put together was given to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, shortly before she died in May 2002. However, many items remained with the family. Part of this collection was bequeathed to this museum through the generosity of her Devon-based daughter in fulfilment of her mother’s intention to enrich the textile collections in her adoptive county.

Monica also added to our knowledge of the museum’s historical collections from the Amazon Basin. During the early summer of 2003, Monica worked with the Karajá people in Xingu. This gave her the opportunity to make ca further collection of Amazonian material specifically for this museum.
