Landscore Primary School, Crediton visit to the Museum
On the 100 children and teachers from Landscore Primary School, Crediton visited the Museum today. In a day-long visit to the city the group split into three and took turns visiting the cathedral, a local art college and looking at paintings from the Fine Art collection with Phil Mawdsley. These included drawings and watercolours by the Widgery's - William and F.J. - local artists who were father and son.

Walter Daw workshop
walter daw child's work
walter daw selection of children's workChildren from Walter Daw School were able to watch a demonstration of oil painting on canvas at their school. Using canvas stretched over a wooden frame - to replicate the paintings the children had seen on previous visits to the Museum - they were then able to make their own paintings using water based paints. This was felt to be a more appropriate medium as Realise did not want a flood of irate parents complaining about their child's permanently oil-paint stained school uniform! You can see some of the results below.

20th and 25th July 2000
St Petrocks Day Centre for the Homeless mosaic workshop

works made by attendees at St Petrocks Day CentreA small group of people attending St.Petrocks Day Centre for the Homeless spent time at the Museum in the Mosaics exhibition. With staff from the centre they collected information and inspiration for their involvement in a city council-led mosaics project involving community groups from all over Exeter. The following week, on the 25th, the same group took part in a practical session at the centre. Each person worked on one, or more, small blocks of mdf which would eventually form the finished mosaic to be displayed in the city centre. works made by an attendee at St Petrocks Day Centre
