The Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter has commissioned a totem pole which was carved live in the museum by Tim Paul, a master craftsman from the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The residency took place during June 1998.

This site allows visitors to chart the progress of the carving and painting of the totem pole. It also allows you to find out about the cultural events and workshops that were led by various members of the 30-strong Nuu-chah-nulth group whilst they were in Exeter.

Through this site school children and teachers had the opportunity to ask the First Nation's people questions. The questions and answers have become a valuable resource, and are still available here in the discussion area archive.
